MISSION STATEMENT

Last Hope, Inc., a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization incorporated in 1982, is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of death-due pound, stray, and abandoned animals. We operate a Cat Adoption Center at 581 West Jericho Turnpike in Huntington, New York and a Dog Adoption Center at 642 Route 109 in Lindenhurst, New York (adjacent to Basic Pet Care).

Through its many programs, Last Hope, Inc. is attempting to reduce the tremendous cat and dog overpopulation problem on Long Island, New York, encourage responsible and economic pet ownership, and transform the public image of the typical pound animal. The specific programs, which we support to accomplish these goals, are:

  • Rescue of death-due, abandoned, and stray animals.
  • Low-cost spay/neuter fees for dogs and cats at local participating veterinarians.
  • Free Rabies vaccination clinics at different locations in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • Early neutering of all kittens and puppies as well as regular neutering of all adult animals adopted through our programs so that NO Last Hope, Inc. animal will ever contribute to the cat and dog overpopulation problems on Long Island.
  • Feral cat trapping through our FIX-A-FERAL program. Since 2003, 12,000 feral cats have been sterilized through this program
  • Adoption programs that seek to place the Last Hope, Inc. dog or cat in caring, responsible, and financially solvent homes.
  • Community outreach and public awareness campaigns to make the public knowledgeable about the tremendous number of unwanted animals in the shelters.

Last Hope, Inc. finances its rescue efforts and adoption centers through numerous fundraisers held throughout the year including flea markets, walks, luncheons, dinners, auctions, low-cost pet vaccination clinics, raffles, and appeals.

The highlights of the Year 2010 are as follows:

  • Placed 440 cats/kittens and 100 dogs into loving homes
  • Conducted two free rabies pet vaccination clinics in Suffolk county.
  • Through our FIX-A-FERAL Program, spayed and neutered 1,000 feral cats.
  • Organized and sponsored two FREE feral cat spay clinics in which 180 feral cats were spayed and neutered
  • Began discussions with the Bide-A-Wee Home Association to move our adoption facilities to their vacant Wantagh shelter.
