“Rhett” is a survivor of a sad scenario. He was discovered before New Year’s Eve with a homeless couple sleeping in their car on Sunrise Highway one of the chilling evening after the blizzard. The man and woman were taken to the hospital with hypothermia while Rhett (their Jack Russell mix) spent the night at the animal emergency clinic. The next morning he was transferred to Babylon Shelter still wearing his too tiny and tattered sweater.
A few days later the couple came to claim him. They said that they had just driven here from Georgia and that they had no place to stay, but were planning on renting a room. They explained they had adopted him from a Craig’s List ad in Georgia about a year ago.The shelter director was reluctant to give Rhett back until they were settled. They never came back or returned phone calls.
Rhett is an active Jack Russell Terrier mix with possibly a splash of Beagle. He is about 2 years old, loving, but active in that JRT jumping bean way. He tends to bark at other dogs but actually wants to be with them. He will sit for a cookie and will gobble canned food.
When asked about his upsetting experience, Rhett remarks: “Frankly….., I don’t give a damn. That part of my life is Gone With the Wind. I am a Last Hope dog now.
I've found my forever home! Thank you!
