Special thanks to Dr. Kornet of Mid Island Animal Hospital for inviting Last Hope to “Be Kind to Animals Day”

They say 50th anniversaries are golden. If so, Dr. Mitch Kornet came up with a 24 karat gold way to commemorate his animal hospital reaching the half century mark. The event called “Be Kind to Animals Day” highlighted the importance of the human/companion animal bond.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Mid Island Animal Hospital, 264 W. Old County Road in Hicksville hosted “Be Kind to Animals Day” on June 18, 2011. Pet owners from Long Island were invited to visit the office and choose an animal charity they would like to support. Mid Island Animal Hospital made a donation in honor or in memory of their pets.

Last Hope was fortunate to be one of six invited guests, so on June 18th a crew of Last Hope volunteers set up a display outside Mid Island Animal Hospital alongside Canine Companions for Independence, the Guide Dog Foundation, Long Island Greyhound Transfer (L.I.G.H.T.), the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Cornell Feline Health Center. Last Hope pups and kittens for adoption were on hand, and our unofficial mascot “Hope”, the Pryor’s sweet paralyzed Beagle strutted around in her braces and custom shoes.

“Be Kind to Animals Day” was well-attended. Many visitors voted for the charity of their choice. We are so grateful to Dr. Kornet  and staff for inviting Last Hope and for a very generous donation. Thanks also to all the volunteers who worked so hard to help make “Be Kind to Animals Day” such a huge success.
