Over the past few years, LAST HOPE has leapt further helping cats, dogs, and people in need near our adoption center and those in distress thousands of miles away. We also sent three dogs out of state for specialized training. Then LAST HOPE placed them with well-matched owners.

In 2022 and 2023, we found more pets loving homes than ever before in LAST HOPE’s 43 years. Your new or continued membership will expand our ability to save more orphan pets, young and old, and place them in secure homes. Cats like “UNA”, who survived a fire in a hoarder house and then needed her infected eye removed; or dogs like “BEAR” a Cocker Spaniel, living in a car with an owner who lost her home, and then her car was taken away too.

In 2023, your membership helped LAST HOPE find 900 loving homes for 576 cats and 324 dogs. LAST HOPE takes dogs from Long Island municipal shelters and from overcrowded, southern states and Puerto Rico. The majority of our cats come from Long Island outdoor situations. Three years ago, we began taking Georgia shelter cats, and cats from Puerto Rico last year. These cats were facing euthanasia because of the constant intake of cats. Their temperaments are incredible. Feral cats received a better quality of life, once spayed, or neutered via LAST HOPE. Altering ferals curtails future cat overpopulation. We held 10 public TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) clinics at My Pets Vet, as well as 3 low-cost TNR Wednesdays at Helping Paw. Over 700 cats were altered, vaccinated, and flea-treated at our public clinics. In addition, we distributed 852 discounted spay/neuter vouchers to Long Island cat caretakers. In the past 20 years, 28,000 cats have been spayed or neutered via LAST HOPE’s “Fix-A-Feral” program. We assisted the needy with veterinary services. This year LAST HOPE will be offering subsidized spay/neuter for the pets of owners facing challenging times.
