Meet Little LAURA from Lynbrook.
In mid June, a woman arrived at Last Hope in tears with a carrier holding a badly dehydrated kitten she found sitting on her front porch.
She was so distraught because she realized she couldn’t keep the kitten and couldn’t try to nurse her back to good health.
Her husband was ill, and her cat was 13 yr old & frail. She was afraid to bring the kitten inside & risk spreading disease to her senior cat.
And worst of all, if the kitten did survive, and she adopted her…the woman was realistic. She knew the kitten would outlive her.
She was afraid no group would help her with this waif…and when she said she had 7 cats buried right outside in the
Bideawee cemetery…that was the clincher..
We definitely had to help this poor 8 week under-sized baby…although it’s against our policy..(.and most rescues’ policy)… to take pets brought unannounced to our door. This kitten was in a bad way…underweight, lethargic, flea -infested.
The lady was so relieved & handed us a donation…Turns out 2 volunteers ready to help the kitten were named “Laura” as was her rescuer. So naturally, the kitten became LAURA of Lynbrook.
Baby LAURA was rushed into the medical room & syringe fed. She was given subQ fluids several times .She got safe flea meds. .She stayed in iso at least 2 weeks while she was on antibiotics for a URI and runny eyes. Her every meal was documented.
She purred, cuddled on your lap and was spoiled by everyone. Her rescuer called me every week for updates.
Now 3 months old, LAURA is fine, tested, vaccinated, spayed & ready for a FOREVER HOME..
P.S. Her rescuer Laura asked that first day: “Why did she come to me? I am so upset because I couldn’t help her.”
But she did help her…and this kind lady is the reason why LAURA of Lynbrook is alive & vibrant today.
To meet pretty LAURA of Lynbrook by appointment at Last Hope in Wantagh, please complete and submit a cat adoption application found on the Last Hope website homepage.
I've found my forever home! Thank you!
