“Spice” is nice, so nice. This mid-size Pit mix, about 4-5 years old and 70 pounds, came to Last Hope after spending 5 months at Brookhaven Animal Shelter where the staff discovered she is deaf. She is quite sweet and has a very special teacher. Diana Lynn is ccordinator for direct professional support for deaf adults from the Mill Neck School for the Deaf who volunteer with the Last Hope dogs on Wed., and with our cats on Thurs. Diana (who’s also deaf) has been a great foster Mom for our dogs in the past too.
When the Mill Neck group learned “Spice” could not hear, Diana took “Spice” on as a project dog to teach her American sign language. “Spice” is an eager and fast learner.
Lesson #1-She mastered the signs for “Sit”, “Good job”, Lie down” and “Shake”.
We have high hopes for “Diana”‘s sessions with “Spice”.
I've found my forever home! Thank you!
