Wantagh Adoption Center Cage Sponsorship
Dear Last Hope Supporter,
An extraordinary opportunity appeared right before our nose. It didn’t take a Bloodhound to sniff out how wonderful this could be. But it did take a long time to work out the particulars.
When the economy went haywire, a beautiful animal shelter closed with little warning. This spacious facility sat empty for two years. A shelter is a terrible thing to waste. Think of all the pets that might have found homes.
Last Hope Animal Rescue dreamed of moving into this vacant shelter, where we could finally bring our dogs and cats together under one glorious roof.
During the next two years Last Hope re-examined finances, while trying to negotiate a rental agreement that an all-volunteer group like Last Hope could afford. We dream big.
Finally Last Hope reached an agreement with Bideawee. As of April 1st we began leasing most of the first floor in their Wantagh Shelter at 3300 Beltagh Avenue. Our new shelter has been scrubbed and painted by eager volunteers.
The dogs have moved in; many of the cats followed shortly. It’s kitten season. We will have no trouble filling Wantagh. June 4th marked our Grand Opening, and the turn out was terrific!
Last Hope now occupies a huge lobby with three glass meet n’ greet rooms, a large cat adoption area, an isolation ward, two free roaming feline rooms, plus ten comfy dog kennels in Wantagh. Now we even have a phone and bathrooms.
Wantagh is our Waldorf Astoria.
But that’s not all. We are keeping our original Cat Center in Huntington open too. Imagine… all these improvements coincide with the celebration of Last Hope’s 30th anniversary in rescue.
However, Last Hope needs your help. As a grass roots organization, Last Hope relies completely on donations and grants. Before the Wantagh expansion, it cost about $1000 day to keep all Last Hope’s adoption and community outreach programs, such as Fix- A- Feral, running.
Now our expenses will be much higher. Just the facilities fees alone will cost another $50,000 a year, and that doesn’t include veterinary care for additional fosters or the new equipment Last Hope will need to furnish Last Hope Wantagh.
Yes, we hope you dream big too for the sake of all the dogs and cats Last Hope hopes to help. That’s why we’re establishing a Wantagh Wish Us Well Fund.
Can you help us with this?
Whether you can help us a little – or a lot – your donation to the Wantagh Wish Us Well Fund will help cement our paw prints into this wonderful chapter of Last Hope history. Your donation can be made in honor of a beloved pet. Your donation is 100% tax deductible.
I thank you for all you have done for Last Hope, and hope we can count on your support again. Let’s keep the Last Hope Wantagh dream alive.
A shelter is a terrible thing to waste.
Sincerely,
Linda Stuurman
