Since his transport from Texas, WASABI is Waiting.
He is waiting for a Foster-to-Adopt Home because we found out (by surprise) that he has Heartworm.
WASABI is only 20 months old (less than 2 years) & 20 pounds. He is a cute , over-sized Chihuahua.
Actually, there are more cases of canine Heartworm the further south in the US the dog has lived, and the poorer the rural area the dog comes from.. because MOSQUITOES ( the spreaders of HW) NEVER DIE from cold weather; & owners, if the dog ever had an owner, don’t know about Heartworm, nor can they afford the preventive meds.
Our blood-tests at Last Hope showed WASABI & the other 2 young Texas dogs-FISHER & NILES -were Heartworm positive.
The trio may have tested negative in Texas . Takes time for Heartworm to rear its ugly head..so sometimes we get surprise HW+ dogs like this.
Meanwhile, WASABI needs a quiet home while he undergoes treatment , including pre-meds & immiticide injections ..so not to suffer complications from too much exertion. He has some problem tolerating other dogs.
Last Hope pays for all veterinary expenses during hw treatment & re-tests.
Wasabi is a rare, expensive plant in Japan. Our WASABI is a rare , one-of-a-kind Chihuahua mix from Texas with a Japanese name.
Think about treasuring Last Hope’s WASABI as your new Foster-to-Adopt Best Fur-kid Friend.
I've found my forever home! Thank you!
