Rest in peace, sweet Lara. Many thanks to the volunteers at Wantagh who diligently did their best, as always, to try to nurse Lara back to health. Though everyone tried their hardest, Lara was discovered in distress early Sunday morning by volunteer Gina, and was rushed to the vet. An x-ray revealed an unexpected, and untreatable, mass on her lung.  It is always upsetting to us that despite our best efforts, and those of the veterinarians to whom we bring our animals, a cat or dog we have rescued is unable to be saved. Knowing that Lara was surrounded by warmth, love and caring at the end of her short life brings us a measure of comfort.  Thank you, Wantagh volunteers!  All of you have a special place in our hearts.
