Autumn will be missed by many

AutumnAutumn was rescued from a municipal town shelter by a LH volunteer.  She was 5 years old at the time and, absolutely, one of the most loving cats we’ve ever known.   We will never forget how she welcomed attention from us, and there probably isn’t one volunteer who worked in the Wantagh center while she was there who didn’t immediately go to see her when they walked in.  We will always remember how she was troubled with stress and anxiety but never allowed that to change her gentle, loving ways.  We were happy to give her a very large living space all to herself to help relieve the stress – and we will always be grateful to her for keeping it so neat and clean.

And while we remember, Autumn, our hearts go out to Fraser Cafaro, Laura Phillips’ father, who fostered and then adopted Autumn.  While under his care, Autumn’s anxiety issues disappeared, and she lived a very happy life.

Anyone reading this right now has, most likely, lost a pet.  We know how devastating it is.  The loss can be unbearable and it can be hard to believe the pain will ever ease.   But it helps to remember that the reason we’re experiencing the passing of our pet and feeling such pain is because we opened our hearts and rescued an animal from, quite possibly, life-threatening conditions.   This is what Fraser did.  Although he only had Autumn for 7 short months, but those were 7 months filled with joy for her.  She was loved – and she had a home with someone who loved her very much.  Thank you, Fraser, for your care and compassion.
