We adopted Smokey, (aka Martin) from Last Hope in December 1997. It was adoption day at Petsmart in Garden City. For me, it was love at first sight. He bounded into his display cage, smacked a toy that was hanging and flopped over on his side. I was smitten. He was 6 months old and I gave him the birth date of June 28th. He joined our family: Tom, me and Maggie (a 1 year old cat at the time).
Smokey lived a wonderful life. He traveled with us to Florida when we retired.
Smokey got sick with Inflammatory Bowel Disease when he was 9. Throughout the 2 years that he suffered with the disease he continually remained a loving and affectionate cat. He took his medication like a champ. Up until the day he died he showed affection with head butts and leg rubs. I told him over and over again what a loving and gentle boy he was.
Thank you Last Hope for what you do.
