Cookie Boy – ADOPTED!

In June “Cookie Boy” an adorable Westie mix about 5 years old and 19 pounds was turned into a shelter by his owner to be put to sleep because “she had already wasted $300 on vet bills for his skin”.

Thankfully, the shelter refused to do so, and the shelter’s vets promptly began a treatment plan to help this badly neglected fellow. His skin was all flea-bitten red, irritated and leathery. Secondary infections had set in.

“Cookie Boy” received a blood work and flea treatment. He was put on antibiotics, a combination of prednisone and antihistamine plus fatty acid supplements. He began a schedule of medicated baths. In several weeks he was much improved but still had a way to go.

He gets along with small dogs (and cats, too according to his former owner), loves people and is a cooperative pooch patient. He is continuing his skin remedy protocol at Last Hope, and a novel food diet may be introduced too. He loves the attention, and would LOVE to have a home of his own where he can continue to heal.

Note: West Highland Terriers are prone to skin conditions and allergies.
