Alejandro, the gentle giant

AlejandroWe received word today that Alejandro has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. For those of you who don’t know, he had been rescued from a feral colony but was found to be a gentle giant after he jumped into the vehicle of one of our volunteers who feeds the colony. He entered our program and in the fall fell ill and was rushed to the hospital where he met the vet tech, Mara, who would eventually adopt him in November, 2013.

In early February he was diagnosed with sever anemia and her love and bond with/for him continued to grow until the end when the tough decision was made that he would suffer no more.

We are all very sad but thankful to Mara for making what time he had remaining, comfortable and filled with love. Mara writes…

It is with great sadness that I am informing you that we have come to the  end of the road with the best cat ever!
2 Blood transfusions, 2 courses of Erythropoietin, Prednisone and 2 weeks of Anabolic Steroids, Iron supplement (Petinic) and most recently Periactin (appetite stimulant)  have not put the leukemia on hold at all. He is severely anemic today and has been declining for about a week. Tomorrow we will end his suffering.
Thank you for bringing him into my life, it has been changed for the better. I will always keep him in my heart and never forget him!  I am sorry it has to end this way.
