Kitt – ADOPTED – 9.28.2013

Kitt“Kitt” a gorgeous American Curl cat has been through such an ordeal in her young life. She needs a reversal of fortune. What’s that, you say?  Translation: “Kitt” needs a loving home where she will be appreciated and never neglected again.

American Curls are a breed established in 1981 (just like Last Hope) distinguished by their unique ears that curl back in a twisty look from the back of the face. “Kitt” has this endearing trait plus an endearing temperament.

This beauty was one of 11 cats, including other exotics, that Last Hope rescued in April after an SPCA seizure at a horrible hoarder home in Medford where there were over 150 animals including two dozen dogs, 62 cats, more than 40 birds, chinchillas, rats and even a tortoise, allegedly owned by someone in the medical profession. As is often the case in hoarding situations, the helpless pets suffered from neglect in these filthy conditions. Many of the cats, though young, already had advanced dental disease that required veterinary care.

All 62 cats were taken to Brookhaven Town Shelter. There was a delay until they were available to rescue. Many of the” Last Hope Eleven” were then hospitalized with upper respiratory for a prolonged time and later nursed in isolation at the Wantagh Cat Center. Keep the irony in mind – they were allegedly owned by someone in the medical profession. “Kitt” may have been used for breeding. No one knows for sure. She is a young adult who has weathered the chaos and crowding of a hoarder house, the uncertainty of the town shelter, the URI, dentistry, and has also tested FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency virus) positive which will make her placement more difficult, but still possible.

Many cats live long lives with FIV. Here is an FIV Fact Sheet:
