Darwin needs your help!!

Darwin, a Hound/Pointer mix, recently rescued from a hoarding and domestic abuse situation in the South, came to us with an old injury to the lower portion of his leg. He walks awkwardly because it hurts him to bear weight on his leg. He requires complex orthopedic surgery to correct his injury so he can walk pain free. This surgery is very expensive so we are asking that you donate what you can to help Darwin, the sweetest dog, walk without pain.

All donations can be sent to LAST HOPE, Inc., P.O. Box 7025, Wantagh, NY or via the DONATE button below. Please mark your donation “The Darwin Fund”.

LAST HOPE and Darwin thank you.

Our first festival of the season!

A great time was had yesterday at the Lindenhurst Spring Festival!

The weather was great and the street fair was packed.  Many people stopped by our booth to show their support and of course visit with our fabulous dogs who were representing our wonderful dogs of Last Hope.

Marvin and Hoshi started out the day greeting everyone that walked by.  Then later Holly Jane came to help out with greeting the people.  Everyone loved them, but what’s not to love about these 3 great dogs?!

All in all the festival was a success…wouldn’t of been half as successful without our fabulous volunteers who helped out yesterday and all the wonderful people who stopped by! By the way…Marvin, Hoshi and Holly Jane are available for adoption so if you have room in your home and heart please consider adoption one of them.

A visit from Brownie Troop 175

Brownie Troop 175 from Sunquam Elementary School in Melville visited Last Hope on Saturday. Troop leaders Sandra Sternstien and Shirley Vargas had requested a visit from volunteer Tetyana Vanderborgh. The girls were given the grand tour and volunteer Diane Russ found out that none of the girls had a cat for a pet and only one of them had a dog. They were very interested in learning about the cats, one of them wants to be a vet in the future. After the tour almost all of them wanted to adopt a cat/kitten or dog.

Timmy…Last Hope “Ambassadog” pays a visit to area schools

Timmy our “ambassadog”, would like everyone to know he is taking the rest of the week off after traveling east and west and across the street representing Last Hope.

Tuesday Timmy was summoned to Valley Stream High School, accompanied by our volunteer Cora Pandy and Timmy’s mom Sue Butz. Teacher Sarah Nichols Brown, family friend of Cora, asked us to speak to a student club interested in animal welfare. The vibrant, intelligent group was ablaze with questions about Last Hope, as Timmy played to his audience with requests for petting and attention.

Wednesday Timmy got up early and walked across the street to Wantagh High School. There he met up with two Last Hope volunteers and High School students Kaitlyn Noon and Sara Stephens. A table had been set up in the lobby to represent Last Hope at this volunteer fair. Timmy thought it best that he sit on the table, as he is short and can otherwise go unnoticed. Needless to say, he drew a lot of positive attention.

Later the same day, Timmy, with energy to spare, went with Sue and Cora to the Candlewood School in Dix Hills. A room full of students, teachers and teacher aides was enthralled with the information Cora and Sue gave about Last Hope. The children, middle schoolers, were intrigued with the agility of our three-legged Timmy, and the discussion led to giving respect to all humans and animals. The children were polite, inquisitive and enthusiastic.

The teachers then wheeled over a cart full of donations the students had collected for Last Hope. What a gift we were given!

Now, as his mom writes this, Timmy is resting quietly. He has, however, one eye open in case he is called into action.
