Timmy our “ambassadog”, would like everyone to know he is taking the rest of the week off after traveling east and west and across the street representing Last Hope.
Tuesday Timmy was summoned to Valley Stream High School, accompanied by our volunteer Cora Pandy and Timmy’s mom Sue Butz. Teacher Sarah Nichols Brown, family friend of Cora, asked us to speak to a student club interested in animal welfare. The vibrant, intelligent group was ablaze with questions about Last Hope, as Timmy played to his audience with requests for petting and attention.
Wednesday Timmy got up early and walked across the street to Wantagh High School. There he met up with two Last Hope volunteers and High School students Kaitlyn Noon and Sara Stephens. A table had been set up in the lobby to represent Last Hope at this volunteer fair. Timmy thought it best that he sit on the table, as he is short and can otherwise go unnoticed. Needless to say, he drew a lot of positive attention.
Later the same day, Timmy, with energy to spare, went with Sue and Cora to the Candlewood School in Dix Hills. A room full of students, teachers and teacher aides was enthralled with the information Cora and Sue gave about Last Hope. The children, middle schoolers, were intrigued with the agility of our three-legged Timmy, and the discussion led to giving respect to all humans and animals. The children were polite, inquisitive and enthusiastic.
The teachers then wheeled over a cart full of donations the students had collected for Last Hope. What a gift we were given!
Now, as his mom writes this, Timmy is resting quietly. He has, however, one eye open in case he is called into action.
